RAT Slippery slopes

I'm concerned that responses here are starting to veer into the realm of the
personal.  I can't think of anything I would rather read less on this (or
any other listserv) than personal attacks.  I don't want to inhibit spirited
conversation, but there is definitely a way to do it that doesn't become
personal and doesn't make others defensive.  I used to be on a surrealist
discussion group that is largely personal attacks--and unfortunately, the
posts there that aren't personal attacks are rarely interesting, so it's
become the primary means of entertainment and exchange.  The dramaturg
conversation is very interesting to me and I agree--it's great to have
conversations on here about theatre.  Even if they are from self-absorbed
pedantic nazi dramaturgs who voted for Nader.
