I feel this,
is a broad statement and deserves clarification. Clearly I can name more
than a bunch of playwrights in this city who have no need to accept a
"survival job" and those that are "produced many times" also deserves
clarification. produced many times where? maybe I even disagree with you
there. The playwrights I know in Los Angeles who have been produced
regularly, work as playwrights or as writers for other media as well. They
write. teach maybe. Computers.
Survival jobs is a phrase that I find misleading. In a sense it's not fair
and slightly demeaning.
We all need survival jobs in a sense. Why would a theatre artist be any
different? The trick is to find one that keeps you going until your survival
job is the job of surviving well.
