  Why is a very important question in all of my work, both in choosing 
a  piece and directing it....

  Three things:
1) what is  most important to do now , in this historic moment?
2) I'm not just doing it because I can (showing off my virtuosity) 
but because it is the only statement I am compelled to make in this 
moment, right?
  3)  How does the work help to raise consciousness, bring forth 
social change, make the world a better place to live in??

  All three elements have to be in place, and all three  questions 
answered, before I begin.

  I don't work much.
