WHAT IS TERMINAL HIP?
Wordsmith Mac Wellmanıs whirling rambunctious verbal collage whose found materials are the detritus of the English Language as spoken in contemporary America. Subtitled "A Spectral History of America Through the Medium of Bad Language," this rowdy solo exploration of the American language by the highly acclaimed award winning playwright gleefully subverts not only traditional dramatic rules of form and content but also, particularly in this work, the very basis of how meaning is created through language in America. Dressed like a Blue Brothers hipster Wellmanıs character (played by Mitchell Gossett) tosses bad sentence structure, syntax and grammar around like a salad, and ends up communicating grave political necessities to an audience that needs verbal rampage to wash itself of the
T.V. culture.

Bottomıs Dream previously produced TERMINAL HIP  during the 1992 election of Bill Clinton over George Bush. The LA Times in its review of that production noted that "itıs hard to think of a better company to stage it... Gossett rides  this verbal tidal wave with the ease and mastery of a veteran surfer hanging 10"

The show's  revival is intended to coincide with the second annual Edge of the World Theatre Festival in Los Angeles Nov. 9-19th. Bottom's Dream will host 5 other theatres at The Ivy Sub as part of the festival.

TERMINAL HIP continues Bottomıs Dreamıs close association with Mac Wellman. In 1996 Bottomıs Dream commissioned and produced the world premiere of The Lesser Magoo at the Ivy Substation. Previous Wellman productions also include "7 Blowjobs" which was named a Top 10 Small Theatre Production of the Year by the L.A. Timesı Don Shirley and was a sell out hit. Bottomıs Dream toured that production to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival where it achieved rousing popularity. Bottomıs Dream has also read Mr. Wellmanıs new work,  (often before The Taper new work festival) in its reading series co-produced with Sun and Moon Press (who publishes Mac Wellmanıs plays and novels.)

Producing since 1992, Bottomıs Dream has been dedicated to innovative new works that explore theatrical forms and heightened language in performance.  Bottomıs Dream presents premieres of plays by American writers with bold voices and poetic imaginations.  By presenting both readings and full productions, Bottomıs Dream strives to foster dialogue around the political, social and human issues that face our community.  Bottomıs Dream endeavors to provide a platform for artists who share our vision and a forum for Los Angeles audiences to engage with new and provocative works.

Bottomıs Dream is based in Culver City, California and produces at the historic Ivy Substation, sponsored in part by the Culver City Redevelopment Agency.  Bottomıs Dream is a founding theatre of the R.A.T. Conference, a national alliance of independent theatres, and collaborates on a regular basis with theatres from outside California.

Thank you for your support and attendance.
