RAT EMERGENCY gazette

Dear RATs,

I sent an email to you a few days ago, but I didn't see it posted on the list, so I will try again. Please forgive me if you've already seen it!

My name is Yelena Gluzman; this is the first time I'm posting to the list, so here's an introduction:

I am in NYC, making theater (directing mostly), and getting an MFA at Columbia, studying with Anne Bogart & Robert Woodruff. I co-edit the EMERGENCY Gazette, a free, bi-weekly broadsheet on performance that is distributed locally and in some places on the east coast and abroad.

I'm writing primarily to tell you guys about the gazette; it seems like something (from the discussions I've seen on the archives) that would interest you.
Also, now that we have a (semi-functional) website, those of you in far-flung places can have a look at it.

The EMERGENCY Gazette was created more than a year ago. Our goal: to create a forum for new theater writing: essays, reviews, manifestos, interviews, anything that is about performance and not entrenched in consumer-based review etiquette. We decided to have an issue every other week so we could provide an immediate response to interesting events (most of which only happen for a week or day or an hour).

We are constantly seeking writing, and we'd love to know what's going on in other parts of the country and the world.

Does this sound interesting?

You can look at some of our archives (and also found out how to SUBMIT or SUBSCRIBE or where to FIND the gazette) on the website: www.emergencygazette.com

Also, we are curious to get feedback, both on the site and on the texts.

Thanks! I'm looking forward to hearing reactions!

-Yelena

PS by the way, our next issue is loosely themed "PROCESS." We are looking for texts about how people make performance. Also, we are running a piece with fragments from rehearsal notebooks (directors, actors, designers, etc), so if you have such a thing, open to a random page and send us the first 100 words you see scribbled there. Don't forget to include the play it was (or will be) and where & when it was (will be) performed. Thanks again.
