I'd like to buy it, and I still might come November, but for now I can only
say, with Peggy Lee, is that all there is? We never DO get around to
reshaping in any meaningful way. Different drivers speed up or slow down,
but it's the same collision course; _that's_ the most threatening issue.
Don't tell me Gore's gonna rock the boat. Geez, he might get wet! The
status quo, a.k.a. giant gangs of lawless thugs, answering to the genteel
term "major corporations," and running roughshod over everything and
everyone standing in the way of their satisfying their insatiable short-term
greed [Nader's phrase] -- not even sparing, in this amazing country, THEIR
OWN EMPLOYEES -- well, both major parties are joyfully aiding and abetting
that status quo, with both hands, and that is how I spell evil; whether the
slide happens a little faster or a little slower over the next four years
is, to me, sobering but subsidiary. It is big business that shows profound
disregard for global human rights, let alone the rights of nature; given the
enormous handouts both Gore and Bush have accepted from said big business,
I'm not holding my breath for even any MINOR attempt to curtail the top 5%'s
wholesale looting of the other 95% of us and every little thing we need and
value, no matter which of them lands the White House. Those two are props
to me. It's like choosing between Richard and Kelly on Survivor. Pick a
number between one and ten, said Greg, possibly just to rub in how flimsy
and sad it all was. Cue Miss Lee.....
