Joel,

Asking out of pure naivete I believe...

what can we do with the two alternatives (running for president) at this
point?  I'm asking so that I may know.

The first chance I had to vote for Clinton, in the '92 primary, I voted for Gerry Brown. When it came to a choice between Bush, Perot and Clinton, I voted for Clinton. It was the right choice.
In '84 I voted Jesse Jackson in the primary, Mondale in November. I vote my conscience in the primary; I vote for my survival in November. It is tempting to vote for Nader, or for the Libertarians or whoever, to send the message that we have a currupt system without real choices for real change.
To do so this year paves the way for W. and his unspeakably evil crew. To quote Samuel Goldwyn, "If you want to send a message, call Western Union."
I'm not thrilled by Al Gore, but he doesn't hate fags. He doesn't threaten my survival. He isn't determined to overturn Roe v. Wade. He won't turn back the clock on the gains we have all enjoyed in civil liberties.
George W. Bush is a corpse-fucking monster from hell. He creeps into cemetaries at night, digs up the graves with his claw-like hands, and plunges his prick into the rotting eye sockets of the dead.
Perhaps I hyperbolize.

What can we do about the U.S. government that I'm told is the best on Earth?
I was jailed for no good reason myself last year and had no recourse
unless I had big bucks which I - like so many seems to me - do not have.  It
really does seem that the rich get richer and the poor, poorer.

All politics are local. Get involved. Motivate people who share your views to get involved with you.I find the Democratic party to be open to change. I am a member of the Stonewall Democrats in Los Angeles. We are way to the left of the mainstream. We are the largest and most powerful Democratic club in California. I registered fourteen queers to vote against prop. 22, including three who had never voted before. You can, as an individual, make a difference.

My situation is one that seems to not allow time to get out and DO things.
I can do from home I believe... instead of wondering what I can do, any
suggestions?  I have so much to write about concerning the experiences from
the past year with the government... law enforcement, etc.

Focus on stopping W. Write, share, telephone, organize, pray.
