erik et al:
i got this response when i posted erik ehn's e-mail to
the bct (big cheap theatre) list here in l.a.
any responses?
note: i did check out the url as mare had suggested,
but that particular "chain letter" referred to in the
article had an personal e-mail address as the site to
send the petition. erik's e-mail lists 2 u.n.
addresses to send the petition. does this make any
difference?

Subject: Sorry to be a party-poop, but....
The email for Women's Rights in Afghanistan is junk.
See:
http://urbanlegends.miningco.com/culture/urbanlegends/library/blafghan.htm
Regarding this and all other very well-intentioned
circulating emails...
Check them out at the urban legends site before
circulating. As with this
one, they are usually ineffectual. (Although,
arguably they do raise
awareness. But don't kid yourself into thinking that
circulating the email
is the same thing as taking action.) Furthermore,
these high-traffic emails
are the perfect hosts for viruses. Though they are
compelling, your best
move is to delete the email without sending it to
anyone. If the cause
really inspires you, take action elsewhere.(Stepping
off the soap box now.)
I'm sorry, Sharon! I know you had pure intentions.
mare
