Re: RAT THE SUPERBOWL?
In Iowa we'll host a troupe from Northern Ireland where cruelty,
injustice, romanticism, passion for civil rights, commitment to the
established order have cumulatively cost the crown billions of dollars.
What sort of art flows from that experience?
And what sort of art flows from the experience of St. Louis, where $1.5
billion is being spent by government on interest payments for the
stadium, parking, a practice field, the Los Angeles Coliseum, the
victory parade; another $.5 billion is being spend by business and
individuals on tickets, luxury boxes, Rams shirts. The minimum-wage
jobs generated are touted as a great boon to the city; and the half-time
show is touted as art. Are there no tools to explode these myths?
Better art that gelignite, but if artists don't speak to the victims and
offer new visions, I fear the gelignite.
