RE: RAT ratscoop

1. I would like to apologize for the extended rif on Matt Bretz origins and
my part in it. Sorry if it bored anyone for even a second.

2. Part of the reason that L.A. rats post so much to this list is that we
have our own local listserve that gets us energized and fired up and has had
a huge impact on the local theater scene. We have met each other, seen each
others work and have exchanged wheelchairs (don't ask, don't tell). One of
the liabilities of a national theater list serve is that theater is a local
phenomenon. The reason I am saying all this is to encourage everyone around
the country to create local small theater list serve. It's remarkable what a
little communication will do.

3. Part of the reason L.A. rats post so much is that only the most insane,
opinionated, self absorbed, stubborn, block-headed and socially inept people
would actually do theater for theater's sake in Los Angeles.

3.5 Part of the reason LA rats post so much is that Mitch Gossett from
Bottom's Dream has been a local evangelist for RAT. I suspect that in other
parts of the country some theaters in the rat circle keep RAT as their own
secret. As if being in RAT gave them a leg up over local competiton.

So it may be that you are the first person from KY to sign on the RAT list.
That doesn't mean you should go away. Be the evangelist in your area. Use
RAT as an excuse to meet the people doing what you do in your area.

4. I don't know why Seattle Rats post so much.

5. Why don't y'all post more?

Love
John

PS Skip, what do you mean filmakers' abandoned narrative in favor of
'commercial viability'. I thought narrative was commerically viable.
Non-narrative is certainly not commerically viable so it seems to me that
the contrapositive (sort of) would be true.
