Uh, nor is Pinter or Shaw a North American writer.  Or Shakespeare or Moliere.

Yes, there is a legitimate beef in that we are not regularly being offered 
productions of non-English-language writers.  Reading is not really a 
substitute cuz these works aren't intended to be appreciated as literature 
but as catalysts for performance.

There is no solution, though one can try to support those productions that 
offer a wider view when one has the chance.  Easier to do in some cities than 
others.
