RAT The Sassies!!!!

It's that time in history again. The Committee under the sponsorship of Rat
Sass Beer is soliciting nominations from the rat-list prior to the awarding
of the three most prestigious Sassies. The 90's Sassy, the Centurion Sassy,
and the Millenium Sassy.

So what was the most important piece of theater of the decade? of the
century? of the millenium?

FOR THE CENTURY in literature we have "Ulysses" and in film we have "Citizen
Kane." In a similar vein the odds on favorite in theater would probably be
"Waiting for Godot." But in theater one may want to define in some degree
beyond just naming the script. For instance it was the 1957 production of
Godot in San Quentin prison where the script first found its knowing
audience. Or one could cite specifically the Peter Brook production of
Marat/Sade or Artaud's production of The Cenci, a script from another century.

FOR THE MILLENIUM everything will be measured against "Hamlet", or one of the
great playwright's other works. But here again one may want to cite a
specific production or theatrical event. For instance the Astor Place Riot in
New York circa 1850 was instigated by dueling productions of Macbeth.

FOR THE 90'S we may feel we can't find anything to put in the same league as
our century and millenium plays. But we must try. The future of the Sassies
are at stake.

Send your nominations with their arguments now before the Committee acts and
history is forever altered without your contribution.
