You are cordially invited to an encore/benefit performance:

MEXOTICA
(Incidents of Tourism in Chiapas & Yucatan)

Written & spoken by Christopher Danowski, & featuring Cherrie Macht as the
Exoticized Other. This performance will take place at Theater In My
Basement on Tuesday, January 25, 2000 at 8 pm. The address is 3317 – 40th
Avenue South in Minneapolis and the reservation line is
612-721-8779. Reservations are necessary as space is extremely limited.
The suggested donation for the event is $10 per person.*

Please note that MEXOTICA contains some fairly strong language, surrealist
impulses, old-fashioned story-telling, political content (this is about
Chiapas, after all), a post-colonial sensibility, and some brief glimpses at
live male nipples. It has been known to offend un-self-reflexive tourist
types in Seattle, Tempe, and our own Twin Cities.

If you missed it in its Twin Cities debut at the Bryant-Lake Bowl, now’s
your chance to catch it. If you did see it before, please be aware that
this newly-revised- for-the-millennium version features at least 45 seconds
of new material. There will be cheap red wine and cheese (in some form, as
our artistic staff is still in debate over ball, log, or the traditional
square form of cheese, & I won’t go into all the ugly details here) served
both before & after the performance.

Due to the intimate nature of the event, no late-comers will be allowed, so
if it’s 8:05, don’t come knocking on the basement windows, because we will
all ignore you. Those who come on time will, of course, be treated with
upmost respect, courtesy, and grace.

Also note, that if you cannot make the Tuesday performance, there will be a
free showing the following Wednesday afternoon for Mark Pedelty’s
Introduction to Cultural Anthropology class, from 12:20-2:15, location TBA.

Please call with reservations, or for more information.
* All proceeds will go toward the lights and set for Theater In My
Basement’s next full-blown presentation, “The Ghost Dreamer,” coming this
March, to be directed by Barbe Marshall, and starring a cast of more than
half a dozen very famous and talented people. Theater In My Basement is a
nearly non-profit organization devoted to the expression and renovation of
the avant-garde/alternative/new, & its mission is to present new works with
a global sensibility, while striving to undermine the recent, alarming
strides of globalization. Tell your friends!
